New Orleans plans show the street car strike ending at 6 PM with a general vote approving a return to work at 20 cents and ten hours per day with a 7.5 hour minimum. The agreement allows needed rehires, avoids discrimination against charged men, and ends two weeks of disruption citywide. Credit for settlement cited to W S Parkeson amid broad public relief.
Judge Crook receives pension warrants for 385 Confederate veterans totaling 7359.40. First class recipients get 37.20, second 31, third 24.80, and fourth 18.60 dollars each, with six first class, three second, eight third, and 368 fourth in Calhoun county. The distribution brings modest relief and honors their Civil War service.
An express train struck a wrecked freight train near Barre three miles west of Petersburg causing the death of Engineer W. R. Smith and Brakeman II A. Traxtow. Fireman W. Black was fatally injured while numerous passengers and crew suffered minor injuries as cars derailed and a post car and four coaches burned. The four Pullman cars stayed on track with all occupants unharmed.
The Siamese crown prince Chowla Maha Vajiravadh arrived from New York and spent a day in Arlington apartments, with a second dinner hosted by Phyla Akharaj Varadhara for 25 guests including Hay Root Wilson Hill and others. He then traveled to Annapolis to inspect the naval academy.
A five minute hailstorm in St Louis caused extensive damage amounting to thousands of dollars. Two inch hail stones shattered greenhouses and caused a theater panic when hail rattled a tin roof during a performance. Several people were bruised though no serious injuries. audience members fainted and later recovered as lights returned.
Mr R B Perkins died at his home Sunday morning at 5 o clock after months of illness. The 56 year old Anniston resident since 1887 suffered from Brights disease and other ailments. He leaves a wife and three children Enon Will Perkins and a North Carolina married daughter. The funeral was at St Michael and All Angels Church at 3 this afternoon conducted by Rev J A Blacklock. Interment is in Edmont cemetery.
