Dr. Z W Ayers and family return to the Chinese mission field after six years abroad. Equipment for paying plant arrives. a crusher will be erected at once to aid operations.
Captain Edmund Leightod Tyler died at his home The Pines on Tyler hill eight hours after falling ill with apoplexy at 8 am. He returned from Saratoga last night and funeral services will be at Grace church with interment here. Born in 1838 in Connecticut, he helped found Anniston and held major railroad posts including superintendent of the Mobile and Montgomery, head of New Orleans and North Eastern, and general manager at West Point. He lived much of his later life in retirement at The Pines and leaves two daughters.
Dr and Mrs T W Ayers accompanied by two sons and a daughter depart at 6 am for Seattle and the Minnesota to sail October 20 for Hwang Hien China. He has raised about 5000 dollars for Warren Memorial hospital ward and infirmary. travel includes Honolulu Kobe Yokohama Nagasaki Shanghai Chefoo and overland to Hwang Hien via a shentze.
Jack Bates an 18 year old resident of 312 Chestnut avenue, recovering from a broken arm, had three fingers of his left hand lost when accidentally shot by Frank Sharpe while hunting near Coldwater yesterday afternoon. The weapon was a 16 gauge hammerless shotgun. Sharpe fainted after the blast, Bates assisted in stopping the bleeding and walked to the end of the car line to reach town for medical care. His parents met him and surgeons treated the injury.
The New York Havana firm J BR Ceballos Co failed with liabilities estimated at 3 to 4 million dollars. Manuel Silvera, head of the Havana house, was linked to the defalcation. No word yet on the vessel Carmelina, from which the missing man reportedly embarked.

Chicago Oct 11 Freight congestion has surged with railroad officials warning of a possible blockade. A major Eastern line yesterday received orders for 2,240 cars it could not fill.
Three men were killed and about a dozen overcome by a gas explosion in a Pennsylvania Railroad tunnel at Long Island City Queens early today. The tunnel suffered extensive damage and the cause remains a mystery with gas believed to have collected in an airlock and been ignited by a worker lighting a pipe.
Washington October 11 The Marine Hospital Service reports plague at Osaka Japan and cholera at Shanghai China. Cholera cases are unlisted but 75 deaths occurred last week and 50 the week before. Surgeon General Wyman calls the situation serious and alerts Pacific coast health officers.
