Montgomery reports show Alabama per pupil school funding drops to 1.31 while enrollments rise from 676 825 to 706 553. General fund increases to 990 734 11 but poll tax receipts fall. Anniston will receive 7 474.86 for its public school fund from the new allocations.
Judge Disque in Gadsden city court dismissed the suit by Weller and Mitchell against the city. The ruling allows Gadsden to build equip and operate its own waterworks system after earlier franchise grant and subsequent repeal. Attorney Joseph J. Willet assisted city defenders in the case.
Washington reports for the fiscal year ending June 30 show Anniston post office gross receipts of 21 360 77 with salaries 2 500 clerk hire 3 300 rent light and fuel 425 other incidental expenses 580 free delivery 6 134 06 total expenses 12 942 28 net revenue 8 418 69 and a 61 percent expense ratio. The state examiners of public accounts will regularly examine the books of county superintendents, placing county officials on the same footing as other officials. Previously, these books were not included in county examinations. Governor Jelks instructed the examiners to include them in investigations.

Montgomery Oct 10 Ten million two hundred seventy one bales is the estimate of the cotton crop from the Southern Commissioners of Agriculture after a three day session. The group approved resolutions on stopping boll weevil importation from Texas and urged railroads support for farmer institutes and school agriculture teaching.
The grand jury for the November term of the United States court in the eastern division of the Northern District of Alabama was drawn this morning. Clerk J. Allison Assistant District Attorney W H Standifer Deputy Marshal Thompson witnessed by Judges Wilsett Tate and City Attorney Hanna. The court opens November 2 at the county courthouse presided by Judge Toulmin. first term ever held in Anniston.
