A head on crash between a westbound freight and a work train on the Big Four railroad near Mackinaw Illinois killed 31 workers and injured at least 15. Debris piled thirty feet high. boiler explosion sent iron and timber flying two hundred feet. Twenty-six bodies recovered. eleven identified. engineers survived.
Will J. Stone Jr a student at the Chicago Piano College and a strong performer received praise from Presto for a recent Chicago concert held November 7 at Kimball Rehearsal Hall. Malcolm Thompson and Gertrude Pratt also earned note for their musicianly work and skillful playing. In Birmingham a pension case led to the arrest of Judge J E Wilson Rev John H Wilson and Miss Victoria Webb on charges of pension law violations connected to Mrs Mary Webb Wilson.
The ad argues health in plants and hair depends on removing the cause. It likens plant disease to hair loss and promotes Newbro's Herpicide to destroy the germ at the roots. It claims soil, sun, and atmosphere matter for plants and hair, urging purchases via druggists and a 10 cent sample request from The Herpicide Co. Detroit.
J. L. Wikie presented as special agent for heavy hauling and moving household goods. R. O Watson is listed with the phone 72 for prompt drayage service and related moving needs.
Dr T G Merritt of Mehoopany Pa reports a startling cure using Electric Bitters for a patient with violent hemorrhages from stomach ulceration. The patient improved from the first dose and has had no attack in 14 months. Electric Bitters are sold for 50 cents at West End Drug Co and Miller Drug Co.
The Anniston city council debated exemption from license taxes for Kilby Locomotive Works and Central Foundry for past years. An ordinance setting vagrancy penalties was passed. The council authorized a $10,000 debt option and discussed sewer, street light, and animal control measures. Licenses for two business owners were approved and ordinances compiled as work continued on city rules.
The Amditorium gymnasium is progressing with painting finished and ceiling and floor due to be completed soon. Bowling alley fixtures are enroute for installation. Management considers staging an entertainment with a grand musical program and refreshments. The gymnasium will be ready by January first.
Dr Andrew L Neldon of New York grafted an ear onto a western millionaire. Neldon advertised for ear donors at 5000 dollars and chose a young German restaurant operator in New York from 300 applicants. He cannot reveal the patient’s name due to legal bond terms. The operation reportedly succeeded and the patient is described as wealthy from the west.
The Anniston Realty Company is formed with articles filed in probate court. Officers include President D. C. Blackwell and Secretary Treasurer Rutherford Lapaley. The firm will operate from Lapsley Arnold and Martin, engaging in general real estate. It has purchased about 500 tax title lots in Anniston Oxania Oxford Jacksonville and Piedmont from G Orebs of Kansas City.
Mr. R. F. Watson is appointed constable for beat 15 in Anniston by Governor Jelks, succeeding J. M. Sweets who was elected chief of the Anniston police. Watson has served as deputy constable and is described as an able and efficient officer. He begins duties immediately.
The body of Mr. P. H Snow was found dead in a hollow near Boaz with his brains shot out. A pocket book showing a 105.00 amount was found nearby. Farmer Carwyle, arrested on suspicion, is accused of killing Snow over a debt.

Means for a residence repair on Pine avenue, and Mrs. Ira A. Wigley for a residence addition on Leighton avenue. Others include Thomason Grocery brick warehouse on Ninth street, L. J. McCluskey dwelling on McKleroy street, George Jebeles two story brick building on Tenth street, Donahoo Co brick livery stable on Tenth street, John B. Knox brick house on Tenth street, and M. Markstein dwelling on Leighton avenue.
