Shelby county courthouse fight renews petition for election commission

In Montgomery on November 18 a petition to appoint a three member commission to oversee a courthouse site election in Shelby County was filed with the governor. Dr J H Gunn representing Calera filed a petition with about 800 names, exceeding the 500 required. Governor Jenks will name the commissioners in a few days as the Calera Columbiana battle over the county seat continues amid historic legislative and constitutional actions.

Special to the Evening Star reports Charles M. Carlisle of Anniston Alabama eloped with Maude Lefevre daughter of F Luther Lefevre a wealthy Poughkeepsie merchant. They wed at City Hall with Alderman Douell and honeymoon at 34 West Sixty fourth street. Carlisle age twenty two from Delta born to JF Lafayette Carlisle and M Elizabeth Gibson.

Trades Council opens with well received program

The first open session of the Trades' Council at Bline Mountain hall drew a large, appreciative audience. The Union Orchestra provided music while C. D. Kline delivered an address. Violin by Master Duggan, a Rosa Neale and Harry Austin duet, and Daisy Baker readings delighted attendees. A second entertainment is planned for next month with Hon. James A. Leath of Birmingham to give an address.

Jenifer Furnace Placed Under Receiver in Alabama

The Jenifer Furnace company is placed in the hands of J. W. McQueep of Birmingham as receiver by Judge T G Jones at the Lagarde Lime and Stone firm's request. The move signals expansion and reorganization rather than bankruptcy, with the Jenifer plant at Jenifer to be enlarged and capital increased while furnaces remain in blast and operations continue.

Isaac Barr, Veteran Alabama Editor, Dies in Florence

Florence, Nov 18 Isaac Barr longtime newspaper man and Alabama Press association member died Sunday night at his home on Tuscaloosa Street He was born in 1829 near Center Star and learned printing in Florence He edited the Gazette Lauderdale Times and Banner Hall He served in the Fourth Alabama Cavalry and was a Royal Arch Mason His wife survives him and he was buried with Masonic honors in the city cemetery.

Burglars Bound Over in Police Court

The burglary gang members were tried before Recorder McGhee. Emmett Oxford was bound over to the city court grand jury in 300 dollars. Dan Whatley’s band was bound at 200 dollars.
