Special to the Star from Finlay Ohio reports that lawyers for the Standard Oil Company failed to persuade Public Prosecutor David to allow indicted officials to appear by their attorneys. David insisted that all indicted men must appear in person. None of the fugitives had returned to Finlay that morning.
A handsome memorial honoring Iowa soldiers who died in Andersonville prison was dedicated with ceremonies in Iowa and impressive speeches by Governor Cummins and others. A delegation of several hundred Iowans attended the event.
