Acting Governor Spriggs appointed W. A. Clark to fill Montana’s U S Senate vacancy until the next legislature elects a successor. Death of Capt Hamilton C. Graham in Selma

Capt Graham editor of The Selma Journal dies suddenly at his home after angina attacks. A Confederate veteran born July 20, he would have turned 60. He was found in his chair after vertigo and a final angina attack, amid garden work with wife and daughter nearby.

Two new mills advance in Anniston construction plans

Work on the Woodstock and Adelaide mills progresses with foundations and stone work underway. The Woodstock mill covers 100 by 340 feet on a single story with 5,000 spindles, while the Adelaide plant measures 75 by 205 feet with capacity for 10,000 spindles and future expansion. Oiling and water facilities, cottages for operatives, and open streets mark the development as Anniston Yarn Mills preparations begin.

Boers Attack Under White Flag Near Kroonstad

Roberts reports from Kroonstadt that two officers and six Prince Alfred Guards foraged near the town. They found a farm with a white flag and the owner surrendered with arms. A second flagged farm fired on them, killing two men and wounding an officer. One officer and two men were captured. The farmer says the Boers threatened to shoot him for protesting the flag misuse.

Recovered Stolen Wheel Linked to Local Arrest

Mr. Arthur Darden recovered his stolen wheel from the porch and traced it to Jacksonville where it was found in the possession of Buster Martin, a colored man. The wheel and Martin were brought to Anniston last night, with Martin bound over in $500 after a morning trial before Justice McGhee.
