Three Houses Burn in Anniston Blaze Threatens Hotel
A midnight fire at the New Wilmer Hotel yesterday afternoon destroyed Fletcher Thomas’s home on West Fourteenth Street near Pine Avenue and damaged two adjacent houses owned by M. McCary and John Isradjey. Ray P. Smith, first assistant chief of the Anniston fire department, suffered chest and head injuries while aiding the fight. he is not seriously hurt and is resting at home. The total loss is about 1500 dollars. Fire origin remains unknown.

Brownson to Take New Place in Naval leadership
Special to the Star from Washington May 13 reports Rear Admiral Willard H. Brownson will assume as chief of the bureau of navigation this week, succeeding Rear Admiral George A. Converse who retired nearly a year ago. Brownson, born in New York and a 1865 naval academy graduate, has served in coast survey work and as commander of armored cruisers and cadets, with a long career including hydrographic duties and command at sea.

Police clash as Italians strike in New London
