Sioux Falls May 11 The Populist convention adjourned at 1 o'clock after nominating William J Bryan for president and Charles A Towne for vice president. The Towne nomination followed hours of debate and a rejection of joining with Democrats and silver Republicans. Both nominations occurred in acclamation amid enthusiastic scenes with minimal opposition.

From Riet river reports dated yesterday say Boer defenders were driven at bayonet point by Royal Hampshire and East Lancashire troops. British losses were insignificant as Hutton’s artillery duels continued. The Boers fought half heartedly and the Free Staters reportedly tire of the war. The final charge broke the Boer line, their rout complete though Boer losses are not yet confirmed.
