Jackson Wins 83000 Damages In Railroad Injury Trial
After forty six hours deliberation a jury in the circuit court awarded J. M. Jackson 83000 against The Southern Railway for injuries in its yards two years ago. Jackson lost a foot and part of the other while working as a brakeman. The case was long dragged through court with prior continuances and involved lawyers Knox Bowie Black for the railroad and Smith Peebles of Atlanta and Tillett Brothers of this city for the plaintiff.

The British ship Sierra Nevada from Liverpool was wrecked near Melbourne’s Heads. Five crew were saved, leaving twenty two believed dead including the captain. The vessel carried no passengers.
