Wasps Attack Campers In Oak Tree Incident

A mountain camping party near Sacramento canyon faced a mass wasp attack when an axe struck a hollow oak limb. Jim, the camp’s hardy helper, freed himself after a river plunge, only to be covered in stinging insects that swelled his head and kept him bedridden through the night. The tale, told by L. W. W. in Forest and Stream, blends frontier danger with natural history.
