London march 31 Roberts army numbering seventy thousand advances on the Boers. The force includes guards Highland brigades Third Sixth Seventh Eighth and Ninth First Second Third and Fourth cavalry Yeomanry two mounted infantry brigades of Colonials. Boers withdraw from Brandfort to the north. casualties yesterday total killed 12 wounded 167 missing 34.
The Star reports two of Anniston's three new cotton mills likely to be built on the Woodstock charcoal furnace grounds. Robinson and Noble and Keith sites are chosen, covering seven to eight acres. Each mill will construct many houses for its operatives once deals close.
The subscribers to the stock of the Anniston Yarn Mills are called to meet Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First National Bank. All subscribers and interested parties are urged to attend for the success and growth of Anniston's enterprise.
Washington March 31 The Alabama senator Pettus delivered a biting satire at the capitol aimed at the young Indiana orator Beveridge. Pettus mocked him in a lively general speech on the Filipinos, delivering a dessertation on oratory that many regard as the funniest Senate moment in years.

The Chicago machine shops strike ends after a conference with union and employer representatives. A national settlement averts a general strike of about 150 000 machinists planned for May 1. Work will resume in Chicago Cleveland and Patterson as arbitration proceeds.
Mesara J B Privett Co of Oxford yesterday purchased the drug business of the late John H Castleberry on Pine and F street. Privett Co will run the shop at its present stand. Ed Castleberry administrator will return to Talladega after settling his brother's estate.
Colonel Colson, former inmate of King's Daughters Hospital, has returned to jail after recovering from a pistol duel wound received in the confrontation with Lieutenant Ethelbert Scott, who died in the incident.
San Francisco March 31 Rear Admiral George Remy recently detached from Portsmouth Navy Yard is ordered by Secretary Long to succeed Admiral Watson as commander in chief of the Asiatic Station. He sails today and should reach Manila about May 1. Admiral Cromwell will take Remy’s former duties. Watson, ill, transfers his flag to the Baltimore and heads home via Suez and the Mediterranean around mid May.
Manila March 31 The Chinese general Pana who has terrorized and devastated Panay has surrendered to Kobbe and is being brought to Manila.
