Ilon A Fr McGhee a state senate candidate invites rivals FLL Blackmon K J Morris and W J Howell to a public debate canvassing Galoun county followed by Cleburne with discussions to start next week in Anniston Alabama McGhee requests replies and scheduling cooperation for the speaking tour.
Fred L. Blackmon declares willingness to meet for a joint debate with A F McGhee and supports Morgan’s reelection and the Democratic Party. He asks McGhee to name a date and venue and proposes mutually agreed times and places for the discussion. Blackmon signs as PRep John L. Blackmon.
The Southern Car and Foundry company received a remarkably large order Saturday afternoon from Cincinnati. The work will be done mainly in the foundries and machine shops and will keep those departments busy for about six months.
Epwardsville March 26 The Democrats of Cleburne county claim the Senatorship this year and will appeal to the Senatorial Executive committee for a primary. If the primary is ordered Cleburne Democrats will abide the result.
The First Methodist Church South at Noble and Fourteenth streets will be dedicated next Sunday with Bishop C B Galloway of Jackson Mississippi officiating. The church recently cleared its debt and invited former pastors to attend the dedication marking an earlier-than-expected ceremony.
The editor jailed for publishing seditious material in Manila is reported. Rebels in General Young’s district grow aggressive and attack the American battalion in Namagpacan for four nights running. Reinforcements are arriving and General Young plans to pursue the rebels.
Several city Sunday schools selected delegates yesterday for the state Sunday school convention in Opelika. First Methodist details include Mrs. J. B. Burnett, Miss Myrtice Wilson, and Mr. B. Brewer. First Presbyterian names Miss Minnie T. Allen, Miss Kate Bellingrath, Miss Lucy Leeper, Mr. A. H. Smith, Mr. H. B. Glover, Mr. Jac. H. Frye, Mr. J. D. O’Bryant. Parker Memorial will be represented by Mr. Wm. A. Davis.
New York March 26. The rapid transit tunnel project at Bleeker Street began with sewer lowering for excavation. The contractor received about five thousand applications for work, but only fifty men were employed ready to start.
Mrs E R Sherrill, mother of Mrs A H Smith, died yesterday at 10 am at Smith’s Tyler Hill home after two weeks with pneumonia. Funeral at 3 pm from the residence conducted by Rev Donald McQueen. Interment in Edgemont cemetery. Mr Charles Sherrill of Texas arrived to attend the funeral.
The World reports lawyer Dill will receive a one million dollar fee for brokered settlement between Carnegie and Frick. The payment details are linked to the influential transaction and noted in the New York coverage dated March 26.
