Montgomery March 22 The public school teachers of Alabama will receive the largest salaries in the history of the system for the second quarter of the present fiscal year. State Treasurer Smith began paying out funds to county superintendents, with more than 300000 dollars expected for payrolls across counties.
The State Executive Department released Mr. G. F. Sedberry's report on Calhoun county officials books and accounts. It commends the efficiency of the Clerk of the Circuit Court EK Watson City Court Clerk A H Sheppard and Judge of Probate K F Crook. The sheriff N D Meharg is found due the state 12.10.
London March 22 The Daily Chronicle outlines negotiations between Lord Kitchener and General Botha. It cites amnesty limits, self government on Jamaica lines, partly elected burgher legislatures, £1,000,000 for property loss, loans for rebuilding, education options, no church or hospital claims, rifle limits, and race rights with Jewish capitalists facing no special disadvantage. A confrontation between Raymond Pritt and Charlie Forsythe near Choccolocco left Forsythe severely wounded by a knife. The incident occurred this morning as Pritt is said to have inflicted the wound.

Whit Crook of this city now serves as troop clerk for Troup G in the Third United States Cavalry in the Philippines. He has charge of the troop books and has seen active service in the Far East during the past year. Before the army he worked in his father Probate Judge B. F. Crook’s office. He joined for outdoor health and is described as a capital soldier.
A unidentified man fell from a railroad trestle at Horse Creek and died instantly. A paper envelope found in his pocket bore the name J. A. Duncan and the ad of Goldberg & Lewis, though their business location was not stated. Citizens await word from relatives as they prepare the body for burial. A Goldberg & Lewis firm operates in Talladega.
