Fire destroyed the stable of Mrs BE L Tyler of the Pines at about 3 am. Valuable horses and carriages were saved by the gardener and coachman as the roof and upper floor burned rapidly. The cause is unknown though matches dropped in the loft are suspected. Firemen arrived too late to save the building.
A new legislative bill grants cities authority to construct and improve streets and drains, assess costs on adjacent property, and define sewer districts. Annis ton's city council is expected to leverage the measure to expand the sewer system and pave more streets when it takes office next month.

In Atlanta on March 14 J H Crutchfield was fined $100.75 by Recorder Broyles after a plea of assault and battery on John Temple Graves. He received seven days in the stockade and was bound over on a $1,000 bond. The recorder commented Crutchfield narrowly escaped a harsher sentence.
The report from Chattanooga says a 60 day window will see Governor Patterson order a special election to decide if Chattanooga goes dry after citizen petitions. Temperance workers celebrate Knoxville victory while revivals unfold as communities prepare to oppose saloons.
