Secretary of State Powers and Capt. Davis were secretly moved from a Frankfort jail to Versailles, then placed on a train to Louisville. Sheriff Sutter led the prisoners and guards claim ignorance. The abrupt removal sparked widespread excitement in Kentucky.
In Frankfort Kentucky a chaotic scene unfolds as Governor Taylor and Beckham factions rush troops to the capital. Police seize Powers Dayis and Davis amid a mounted crowd, with Peake briefly resisting arrest before release on bond.
Lexington Kentucky March 12 Almost without warning the storm center of excitement in the gubernatorial struggle shifted to Lexington Saturday night. The 840 Chesapeake and Ohio train brought Caleb Powers Secretary of State Captain John Davis capitol square policeman and Lieut F R Peake of Irvington with warrants charging them with complicity in Governor Goebel murder. Police and sheriff pursued the train to detain the men as crowds gathered.
A Yarmouth despatch reports the steamer Counte collided with another vessel near Cable Island last night. The captain and twenty-one crewmen are feared drowned. Coast guard and rescue efforts underway as search continues.

The condition of Dixon Noble, who has been ill for several weeks, worsened today with no hope of recovery. He began sinking this afternoon and is expected to live only a few hours more.

Gen. Roberts advances toward Bloemfontein after near Bogotá? No, Bloemfontein. Reports say he crossed toward Bothwellie bridge where Boers hold the far bank. Roberts is about 25 miles from Bloemfontein and expected to reach the capital by Wednesday despite Boer resistance.
Natal dispatch notes Kruger's appeal to the burghers was welcomed by the British as proof the Boers are disorganized by recent defeats. The Times discourages active agitation for annihilation of the Boer republics and urges confidence in Great Britain to reach a satisfactory settlement.
London dispatch reports Kruger and Steyn asking Salisbury through a consular official for terms on which a European power might arrange a treaty peace. Paris dispatches deny any such action by Kruger and Steyn. Hlave Edmondson & Anderson to do your hauling.
A blaze in a Roseville Italian church converted tenement killed many children and trapped residents. Fifteen bodies recovered, twenty-five missing, none of the dead men. An arrest was made in connection with the fire as rescue teams worked amid chaos.
A crowd of offenders appeared before Hissinev in police court this morning over various offenses. Macon Cobb, a negro, faced three charges including resisting an officer and was fined 12.10 and 100 days hard labor. Stell Hopkins, a negro boy, was fined 4 for striking a child with a rock.
Postmaster L. T. Smith announced the removal of the Anniston postoffice to the old Ullman stand at Tenth and Noble streets, with the move planned for the end of April. The new office will have up to date fixtures and be the state's most modern. A government official will arrive soon to take measurements, then fixtures will be manufactured and installed over several weeks. Wm Noble and R H Cobb, who had been in Washington advocating removal, returned home.
Oxford voters faced a tight race amid a calm, wet day. By noon about 125 ballots were cast with Whiteside supporters claiming a solid lead while Howie backers expected a slim win. No disorder or ill feeling was reported as managers and clerks oversaw the polling.
