Lexington Kentucky March 12 Almost without warning the storm center of excitement in the gubernatorial struggle shifted to Lexington Saturday night. The 840 Chesapeake and Ohio train brought Caleb Powers Secretary of State Captain John Davis capitol square policeman and Lieut F R Peake of Irvington with warrants charging them with complicity in Governor Goebel murder. Police and sheriff pursued the train to detain the men as crowds gathered.

Steamer Collision Off Cable Island Sinks Captain and 21

A Yarmouth despatch reports the steamer Counte collided with another vessel near Cable Island last night. The captain and twenty-one crewmen are feared drowned. Coast guard and rescue efforts underway as search continues.

Conductor A G Pitner of the Rome and Selma division of the Southern Railway died this afternoon in Rome at 2 o clock after a weeklong illness with pneumonia. He lived in Selma with a wife and two children. The loss shocked friends in Anniston where he was well loved.

A crowd of offenders appeared before Hissinev in police court this morning over various offenses. Macon Cobb, a negro, faced three charges including resisting an officer and was fined 12.10 and 100 days hard labor. Stell Hopkins, a negro boy, was fined 4 for striking a child with a rock.

Postoffice Move Set at Anniston to New Ullman Stand

Postmaster L. T. Smith announced the removal of the Anniston postoffice to the old Ullman stand at Tenth and Noble streets, with the move planned for the end of April. The new office will have up to date fixtures and be the state's most modern. A government official will arrive soon to take measurements, then fixtures will be manufactured and installed over several weeks. Wm Noble and R H Cobb, who had been in Washington advocating removal, returned home.

Oxford Election Contests Show Quiet, Wet Day

Oxford voters faced a tight race amid a calm, wet day. By noon about 125 ballots were cast with Whiteside supporters claiming a solid lead while Howie backers expected a slim win. No disorder or ill feeling was reported as managers and clerks oversaw the polling.
