Reports from Bialystok on June 15 describe a massacre of Jews following a bombing in a Corpus Christi procession. Thirty Jews killed and many wounded as shops are looted or burned. Troops restore order after days of savage conflict. panic spreads with residents fleeing the city.
Telegraph from Richmond Va reports the June 15 date for the two cent rate on 500 and 1 000 mile tickets as required by Virginia law. Railroads show signs of ignoring the law while commercial travelers groups press for compliance and plan court action if rates remain resisted. Protests target payment of old rates and detachments of mileage coupons to fund higher fares.
The Evening Star and merchants sponsor a vote driven contest offering a 242 volume library worth $600 to the institution receiving the most ballots by Oct 6 1906. Eligible groups include churches schools lodges and clubs with books exhibited at Globe Clothing Co for public inspection.
