A United States missionary woman was killed while on service overseas, prompting calls for protection of American aid workers. Authorities began investigations as families and church groups expressed shock and called for enhanced safety measures.
New York reports the murder of Dr. Edna G. Terry at Tsung Hua China. The dispatch notes commander concerns as Chinese troops entrench near the city to oppose Allied forces. Hopkins and Hayner, also missionaries at Tsung Han, are confirmed safe. another Miss Croucher from Boston is at the station.
Nashville Tennessee June 14 Reverend S H Chester secretary of the board of missions of the Southern Presbyterian church sent a telegram to John, asking protection for southern missionaries. The message seeks safeguards amid rising dangers reported in overseas postings.
Secretary of state cites press dispatches reporting threats near Chin Kiang China and endangered missionary lives. The board of mission urges government protection at this station for church workers.
London reports Pekin is isolated as Chinese forces entrench outside the capital while the international column advances. A Tien Tsin dispatch notes Chinese guns trained on the American mission and British legation. Two thousand Russian troops with artillery have landed at Taku.

Colonel Tom Campbell and Justus Goebel pressed the matter, arguing Taylor could receive a fair Kentucky trial. Mount stood firm after an hour of debate. The decision was announced at 10 PM.
J A McGuirk of Dalton Ga has been named agent of the Southern at Anniston to replace S P Kennedy who resigned. McGuirk, longtime Southern agent at Dalton and former Memphis & Charleston commercial agent, is well known in railroad circles. A large petition urged Chief Clerk Thomas M Curry of the local office to receive the appointment, with many shippers backing him.
The Alabama Bar Association will hold its regular annual convention in Montgomery tomorrow. Hon. J. J. Willett of this city will preside as president of the association. Willett left this morning for Montgomery by way of Birmingham. The convention will convene for two days.

The rolling mill of the Southern Car and Foundry company, closed temporarily earlier in the week, will resume work Saturday. Notices posted at the works today confirm the restart.

Services: 7:30 and 8 p.m. tonight and three services Sunday 11 a.m. 3 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. The 11 a.m. talk asks Who is on the Lord's Side and 5 p.m. features pastors from neighboring churches. Baptism follows Sunday night.
The First Baptist church and Sunday school announce their annual picnic at Oxford Lake this Saturday. Members, friends, and families are invited to attend starting 8:30 a.m. from the church at Fourteenth and Pine, taking the 9 o clock car. Tickets at local stores for those purchasing. Children will receive free tickets.
