Shenandoah Pa faced a violent night as a mob ruled Center street with two policemen shot and Sheriff Beddall arriving with a posse. National Guard 1500 troops were summoned to restore order after deputy sheriffs were attacked and a nonunion worker beaten.

Death of Louise Owen a Sad Loss in Walnut Street

Ten year old Louise Owen daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Owen died last night at home on Walnut street after a brief illness from meningitis. Funeral services will be at 4 o clock this afternoon from the residence with burial in Edgmont cemetery. Rev. H. Howard of the First Methodist church will conduct the rites. The bereaved family receives heartfelt sympathy from many friends.

Calhoun Rifles to entertain at Oxford event

The Calhoun Rifles will entertain at Oxford tomorrow night with an exhibition prize drill and an inspection by Major J. L. Daniels. Refreshments will be served and proceeds go toward paying the company’s expenses for the Confederate veterans reunion in New Orleans next May.

A meeting of prominent Populists was held in the circuit court room at 11 this morning to decide on upcoming campaign action. After consultation, no definite plans were adopted and another gathering is likely to finalize decisions.

Longstanding mystery may have been cleared

In Birmingham a badly decomposed body found in a creek near Blocton on April 25 may identify the remains as WH P Baxley, a Talladega county merchant who vanished from Birmingham on March 11. Baxley’s brother returned from Blocton with the skull for identification. the skull’s peculiar back contour may confirm the find, with a bullet wound in the breast and both feet cut off noted.

Mrs Lott Dies in Birmingham While Visiting Relatives
