Cossacks and infantry clash with peasants as mutineers attack officers at the Peasants and Jews reform drive. Two dead and six injured in the clash. Telegraph report from St. Petersburg dated July 24 1917 notes the czar plans a manifesto to undercut dogma with reforms amid a quiet national mood and low chance of a general strike.
In St Petersburg July 24 reports say Cossacks and infantry clash with peasants in Oreland Voronezh and surrounding areas with over fifty casualties. Meanwhile details of the Warsaw mutiny say two officers killed and six wounded as mutineers from the artillery corps attacked the officers club, with an infantry detachment called out to quell the revolt.
London reports private dispatches claim an anti Jewish program has begun at dessa with heavy destruction of property and forecasts of massacres.
In Viborgo Finland two douma members were arrested and placed in dungeons. Authorities report more arrests expected as the crackdown continues.
The deaf watchman Thomas Eagin, 41, a night guard for the Louisville and Nashville railroad, was found dead near the guards. Coroner Paris called a jury as investigators suspect murder. Eagin had pursued car breakers. a single shot was heard after he left yard men. Conductor Shannon found the body beside the track. no bullet wound was found.
Spokane report states the Great Northern westbound train left tracks near Camden Washington, plunged down a sixty foot embankment into Diamond Lake. The engine, express car and smoker submerged. nine men in the smoker and the engine crew drowned. A wrecking crew recovered bodies and injuries. a gas tank explosion likely fatal for one man in the day coach. Diamond Lake depths reach five hundred feet in places.
Six hundred employees of the New Bedford street railway company walk out after a clash with road operators. The unions demand recognition, the main issue cited by strikers as the decisive cause of the stoppage.
Special to The Star reports the Alabama Press Association will hold its fifth annual meeting in Gadsden July 24 25 with editors arriving by Louisville Nashville train. Bellevue hotel on Lookout Mountain will host sessions and a reception committee led by Mesdames Elliott Hood Meeks Hart Kyle and others. Senator John T Morgan and Governor Wm Jelks are among expected participants.
Architect W. Carlton has been engaged to prepare plans for Mr. L. H. Kaplan for the erection of four additional one story business houses on South Noble street between Eighth and Ninth streets. The brick structures will be 25 by 75 feet with modern plate glass fronts. Contracts will be let soon and work pushed to completion.
The body of painter Mc Guire was recovered from the ruins, bringing deaths to eleven after the building collapsed yesterday afternoon in South Farmington Massachusetts. Those injured in hospital are reported as doing well, and a thorough search for additional victims will take time.
New York July 24 Norfolk and Western Railroad directors W T Barnes and John B Thayer resigned at a board meeting. Henry Frick and W Frick were elected to fill the vacancies, strengthening control by major stockholders of the N W railroad.
The annual camp meeting at Peaceburg will begin on Saturday August 11 and run until the following Saturday. Pastor Rev. R. B. Baird and presiding elder Rev. J. W. Johnson will be assisted by visiting ministers. The campground is a popular resort drawing large crowds each year.
Seventy five girls employed at the Imperial Laundry fled in panic when the building caught fire. They lost their street clothes but none were seriously injured. The fire caused about 25000 in damages to the laundry.
London reports Parliament members plan to raise the matter as an international issue. The dispute centers on quashing a summons against United States Ambassador Reid's chauffeur for speeding the ambassadorial auto beyond legal limits. It notes past exemptions for ambassadors and their staff in Massachusetts and the lack of action against the chauffeur.
A baseball game between Aniston and Piedmont is scheduled for tomorrow at the local park. Rivers and Bullard will be the battery for Aniston. Due to Piedmont’s 5 o'clock train, the game starts at 3 o'clock. Fans are urged to attend early and support the teams.

Jackson Mississippi July 24 the Democratic executive committee met in the afternoon and formally declared John Sharp Williams the nominee for congress from this district. Local party leaders hailed Williams as the party’s standard bearer for the upcoming campaign and urged supporters to unite behind his bid.
Mr L H Kaplan renews push for a $25,000 hospital in Anniston to care for the sick and helpless. He pledges an extra 500 if others hold and advance the project, citing past $10,000 raised by 37 citizens and a costly X ray machine offered by Dr R L Bowcock to equip the facility. The need is framed by residents who travel to Birmingham or Atlanta for care.
