Between 30 and 4 persons are reported killed in a collision between a Pere Marquette special excursion train from Jonia to Detroit and a freight train at Salem Michigan at 10 am today. Dispatches say 30 bodies have already been taken from the wreck.
An official Pere Marquette dispatch tallies 22 dead and 45 injured after a crowded 12 car excursion train wreck with seven cars crushed. The chief surgeon and multiple surgeons rushed to Salem, while relief trains were dispatched pre collision amid claims of order confusion.
In Peoria Illinois July 29 the eight anniversary of Col. Robert G Ingersolls death is marked by a bronze heroic statue unveiled in Glen Oak Park. The piece designed by Frederick Ernest Trieber portrays Ingersoll in everyday dress with hands on hips to reflect his lecturing and courtroom style. The Ingersoll statue Association organized the project with a $10000 goal and veterans of the Eleventh Illinois Cavalry will attend the unveiling.

Plutarch Bowen, described as American, was abducted from Mexican soil by Guatemalan troops and shot on orders linked to treason against Guatemala President Cabrera. The dispatch from Tapa Chula, Mexico, states Bowen was declared a native of Guatemala by his executioners.
In Rome on July 20 a memorial Mass marked the fourth anniversary of Pope Leo XIII death. The ceremony at St Peter's drew church dignitaries diplomats and many pilgrims as Pope Pius blessed the catafalque and offered a prayer for Leo XIII.
Friends on the Anniston Public Schools board say Mr. Murphey won the superintendent post by plurality on first ballot. Opponents insist no valid election occurred and the acting chairman ruled there was none. Public interest grows as the contest unfolds.

Mr. James H. Garth of 1400 Quintard avenue was seriously injured after sliding from a moving streetcar at Tenth and Noble streets about 11 PM. His knee is said to be fractured and internal injuries suspected. He rode the running board to find a seat and fell when the car started leaving him off.
N Patrick shop committeeman for the Stove Platers Union says there is no strike at the Wilson stove works. He asserts the plant is temporarily closed not due to a strike and will resume in a few days, despite reports to the contrary.
