James and J E Wright, residents of West Corn, quarreled yesterday over a gun incident. James claims Wright tried to shoot him, the gun jammed, and Wright grabbed it. The weapon is in Sheriff Woodruff’s possession. Wright swore a warrant and hid in town but remains uncaptured.
Reports say the coronation is expected between August and 15 and that the king’s recovery is rapid though no formal announcement has been issued. The Westminster pageant will be curtailed, with officials noting the king remains well and his condition hopeful.
Minerva Smith of Dan Til claims twenty years of bronchitis ended after using Foley's Honey and Tar. The feach Drug Co promotes the product as a sure cure, citing her testimonial as proof.
City businessmen refuse to falter after the June 13 blaze. About 200 carpenters and masons work to clear debris and rebuild within sixty days a modern, fireproof town. The council ordered brick and stone buildings to prevent future fires. twenty eight stores are up and nine more under construction.
Dr A A Green buys three lots on Twelfth street between Noble and Wilmer and plans a combined office residence building near the Government building. He has just returned from extended stays in New York and London and is establishing his faith in Aniston by buying property. Until construction, his offices will be above Stickney's Drug Store.

The Alabama Commercial and Industrial Association holds its annual meeting in Gadsden starting tomorrow and running through Thursday. Delegations from major Alabama cities will discuss topics from technological schools and insurance to river needs and municipal reform as prominent speakers address farming, commerce, and state exhibits. A delegation from Anniston’s Commercial Club plans to attend.
Camp Pelham United Confederate Veterans will hold their annual picnic at Oxford Lake tomorrow with the United Daughters of the Confederacy assisting. Preparations are complete and the day should be enjoyable. Speeches by Hans, Joseph J. Willete, and R. B. Kelly are planned, promising engaging talks. Cars will be provided and attendance starts after 8 o clock.
Havana bankers replied to Cuba government’s request for a 4,000,000 loan to aid sugar cane growers saying they do not believe the loan can be raised. Secretary of State and Justice Saldo asked U S Minister Squiers to query Washington about removing stores from a Havana harbor wharf to free space for storage.
The committee on Labor Day led by Katzenstein Ruod and Lamar reported strong progress after canvassing city business leaders for donations. Organizers expect ample funds for a distinguished Labor Day program with notable speakers. Meanwhile The Globe Clothing Co. advertises a wrecked sale offering 100 shirts for 49 cents each.
Montgomery July 8 Governor Oates denies rumors of a gubernatorial bid. He says he does not want the office under any circumstances and favors a primary allowing votes for every officer from United States Senate down. He would not volunteer before the committee unless asked for his views in greater detail.
In Offerman Georgia a severe thunderstorm toppled lightning across two wire construction sections five workers died and two were injured. All victims were employed by Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. White workers and Black workers alike perished in the two close sites about five miles apart.
The court house clock has run down after a long string of troubles. It stopped at three minutes past one and then the striking department failed. The public has lost confidence as the clock’s accuracy worsened, prompting calls for immediate repair or removal to avoid further embarrassment.
The Columbus Georgia club travels to Anniston for a three game set Thursday through Saturday. Anniston, led by Captain Steele, lists Brown catcher Kennedy pitcher Moore first Howard second Bansse third Steele short Ingram left field Fred Bell center Mathews right field. Leslie Howard, brother of Rev H Howard, joins as a new player. Columbus recently beat Rome 13 to 1.
