A severe storm swept western New York with tornado winds and heavy rain. Arcade reports one death and about $100,000 in damage as Minnie Lopez, bakery owner, drowned when her shop washed away. Bridges washed out and roads buried. farms lose livestock and homes.
Members of the Anniston baseball club have returned from a trip. Several players arrived Saturday night, with Manager Williams also back. They claim Augusta and Columbus games were affected by umpiring. Anniston asserts a fair chance was missed in the Augusta game and a controversial call ended the Columbus game. The team, praised as among the South’s best amateurs, plans to add players for upcoming games Thursday and Saturday.
Capt. J W Sleard United States recruiting officer visited the local station. Five recruits were enlisted Dan Martin David Edwards Walter Sterrett George Lee and George Bonner. Martin to Fort Sam Houston Texas while the four Negro recruits went to Fort Sheridan. All were recently mustered out veterans. There is solid satisfaction for smokers in Warters Hand made Cigars. Only five cents.
The Southern Railway offers round trip tickets to Knoxville for Summer School of the South with departures on June 17 18 28 29 30 and July 11 12 13 1902. Return by August 15 1902. Extensions to September 30 1902 available by deposit with joint agent Knoxville on or before August 19 1902 with fee of 500.
Rev J E Barnard, pastor of First Baptist, speaks to a crowded house about a Columbus Ga revival, denying personal wrongs and condemning distorted reports. Ledger and Constitution notes cited as he asserts truth against falsehood, with statements from Rev Lamar Jones defending him.
Calhoun county registrars report 4480 life voters listed as registration closes at the courthouse. The prior strength was 4500, with a two day session planned before the election to allow possible additional registrations. About 110 of the 4450 named are negroes and final certificates await further consideration.
Wilmington North Carolina reports Clinton suffered the town's most disastrous fire. Damage near 100000 with limited insurance. The blaze started in J N Carr's grocery at 11 am and destroyed or damaged 42 stores and homes along Elm Street and surrounding properties.
A fire at Shelby Springs destroyed the dining room, telegraph office, and two out houses at 2 o'clock yesterday morning. Three young men, George Danforth, Owen Browne, and Lee Stollenworth, helped save several cottages. The cause was likely a torch left burning on the lawn, with rebuilding planned within days.

Southern Railway announces round trip tickets from points on its line to Minneapolis Minnesota for the National Educational Association meeting July 7 to 11 1902. One fare for the round trip plus 200 cents, tickets selling July 4 5 and 6 with return travel no earlier than July 8 and no later than July 14. For details consult any Southern Railway ticket agent.
