Vermonters Fought on Their Own Hook Before Bennington
In 1777 Vermont settlers known as the Green Mountain Boys resisted Congress and formed an independent colony. Ethan Allen’s lads defeated Burgoyne’s forces at Bennington prior to Saratoga, earning Vermont a de facto sovereignty and shaping Revolutionary history in the region. John Stark, Putnam, and Langdon aided the effort, ministering to powder and resolve amid harsh winters and rain.
