The Anniston post office shows strong year end gains under Acting Postmaster Barker with receipts rising to 33,078.31 for the year and an increase of 8,931.28 from the previous year, signaling potential elevation to first class alongside Atlanta and Birmingham.

Oxford July 2 The board of education met at Dr B D Williams office with full members present. Miss Rolle Andrews and Eunice Donoho were re elected for their respective departments while other teachers’ elections were postponed. The board will invite qualified men for principal and set monthly meetings the first Tuesday night. A note from Miss Donoho said she accepted a Tuscaloosa position.
The Texas Bar Association opened its annual meeting in Beaumont with a large representative attendance. President A. L. Betty of Sherman called the session to order. Judge Yancy Lewis of Dallas will deliver the annual address and the convention will close tomorrow night with a banquet featuring several prominent lawyers and jurists as speakers.

Alabama lawmakers begin a July session on July 5 with thirteen days left under the constitution. The Governor may not extend the term, though he could grant thirty extra days. Key tasks include selecting a U S Senator to replace John Morgan and deciding on a new Alabama Code from the Code Commission.
Mountain Oak lodge number 45 of the Taoist order elected Noble Grand Ed Norton Vice Grand J B Cornett Secretary F M House Treasurer J A Segars and Trustee F S Copeland for the term. Installation will occur at the next lodge meeting.
The Western Steel Car and Foundry Company signed the new finishers scale for the local plant replacing the puddler scale. The puddlers scale is expected to be signed in a few days. Raw material inflow is strong with about 40 carloads received recently. The finishing mills run full time with ample work and material. puddling department to resume later this week.
New York July 2 Officials of the American Ice Company met the strikers today. They claimed enough strikers to man wagons and police protection to ensure deliveries. The company promised to reinstate workers who return at once. About two thirds of the men have returned to work.
A swarm of bees clustered on a switch handle in Sioux City yards halting four railroads and a Standard Oil train. About fifty workers tried to remove them as a boy suggested his father. The man captured the bees in a wash boiler and traffic resumed.
Mr. J. B. Powell of the state tax commission spoke at a Calhoun county commissioners meeting in Anniston. The commission aims to tax all property at 60 percent of real value and will adjust local assessments accordingly. Powell noted land values rising from about $1 per acre to $30 to $35 per acre in recent years.
