Rear Admiral Robley D. Evans told Pittsburg that the United States will enter a war with Japan, but it will be through money not bullets. He argued Japan is cutting navy appropriations and is not preparing for war with America, while claiming the U S should fear no Japanese army.
Mrs. J W Mallory died at Seilers hospital Sunday morning following an operation for appendicitis and complications. Funeral at 1224 Leighton Ave today with Dr J H Foster officiating. Interment Edgemont Cemetery. She was a social and religious leader in Anniston and survived by husband two children her parents Mr and Mrs H Clay Davis three brothers and one sister.
Washington January 25 The House voted 183 to 144 to allow the Pension building to host the inaugural ball. Representative Sims of Tennessee attacked the plan claiming the ball is a fraud and that costs are borne by visitors, not Washington residents.
Washington reports a special committee will meet this afternoon to decide whether to expunge Representative Willett of New York's speech denouncing President Roosevelt from the Record. Democrats oppose the move, pushing back against expulsion.
Washington January 25 The House committee on territories completed a bill admitting Arizona and New Mexico to separate statehood and it will be reported early next week. Speaker Cannon has agreed to its passage.
Miss Willie Graham an employe of the Robinson cotton prill and Leo Gilbert reportedly tried to end their lives Sunday night by carbolic acid and laudanum. Gilbert survived after a dose of laudanum but denies a joint pact. Graham’s acid attempt caused only minor injuries. Gilbert told his mother and authorities he was tired of life and acted after the earlier event. he was later treated by Dr. Brothers and discharged. The case follows prior street trouble and a pool room incident linked to Gilbert, whose mother cites mental strain as the cause.
Washington January 25 insurgents in the House will meet tonight to draft amendments to the rules of procedure. They do not expect a major fight this session but plan a vigorous campaign in the next Congress with no immediate clash anticipated.

The strong Alabama delegation from Anniston Birmingham Montgomery Huntsville Selma and Decatur sails for Washington Monday night to challenge the confirmation of Oscar Hundley as judge for the United States circuit and district court in the Northern District of Alabama. They intend to present documentary evidence including a John T. Morgan letter refuting Morgan endorsement claims and affidavits alleging political use of office and gambling.
Carrie Nation arrived in London and condemned local saloon conditions saying stronger methods than the ax would be needed. Police warned her that any violence would bring a long jail sentence.

The Republic sank last night at 8 o'clock with six deaths. Eugene Lynch of Boston and W. J. Mooney of Langdon, NC were killed in their staterooms, and four steerage passengers aboard the Florida also died. The Baltic carried 1,650 survivors after the collision.
