Mrs. Carrie Nation, famed Kansas reformer, spoke at the Academy of Music in Kansas City after a Topeka escort arrived. Pastor KR Emerson introduced her, she urged singing a hymn, cited Bible passages, and said she would not bite off more than she could chew while condemning saloons as a menace and planning to move on to Des Moines after the lecture.
London reports a counter proposal to the United States Nicaragua canal plan will be issued soon. It will not meet Senate demands and may require extended negotiations. Lord Pauncefote is expected to transmit the reply and lead talks, with months likely before a conclusion as the Hay Pauncefote treaty lapses after Senate amendments.
