Mountain Mine Disaster in Mexico Kills 87
A San Andres mine explosion in the Sierra Madre near Durango Mexico kills 87 people and injures many. The blast from stored dynamite and a fire started by crossed electric wires tore off the mountain top, flinging residents above the mine into pieces.

Pioneer Citizen John J. O’Brien Dies in Anniston
John J. O’Brien died at his West End home at 11 o'clock after a long illness of consumption. A Knoxville, Tennessee immigrant who settled in Anniston in the 1870s, he served as general superintendent of Lagarde Lime & Stone until health declined. He leaves a wife and six children, and he is survived by brothers P H O’Brien J O’Brien W N O’Brien and sister Mrs. Robert McArdle. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery tomorrow afternoon with Catholic rites at 3 o'clock led by Rev. D A Brady.
Capts Bush Company Makes Major Iron Ore Purchase
The Alabama Consolidated Coal and Iron Co owner of the Ironaton Gadsden Mary Lee furnaces buys 1200 acres near Gadsden with a three foot seam of red ore. Daily output exceeds 200 tons as full operation continues. Purchases connect with nearby furnaces lowering freight and expanding capacity.

Negro boy sent to jail without bond on murder charge
Richard Smith, a black youth arrested on an assault warrant in West End, was ordered imprisoned without bail by Judge Crock. The assailed white boy, Bird, died from injuries. The charge was upgraded from assault to murder pending grand jury review. Two other cases were continued until next Friday.
