London reports from Spearman's Camp that General Buller and General White exchange messages by night with calcium lamp and by day with heliograph A large convoy with stores is to accompany the relieving force to the besieged garrison and troops are enthusiastic about a speedy advance under Buller’s guidance
A Durban dispatch dated Sunday reports General Buller crossing the Togela and advancing toward Ladysmith. It suggests he crossed near Trichard's drift at 4 Spot, leaving the enemy behind and moving through open country toward Acton Homes, with Ladysmith expected by tomorrow night.
London February 5. Reported rumors claim General Buller may be crossing the Tegel river for a renewed effort to relieve Ladysmith though no formal confirmation exists. War office has received several South Africa dispatches not yet published, with speculation about Buller reoccupying Spion Kop from Lyttleton’s camp and possible ford information from Spion Kop farm.
In Russell County Johnston leads with a strong majority amid incomplete returns while in Winston County Senator Morgan wins by a large margin though full tallies are not yet available. The vote count in Birmingham notes continued contest over fraud claims.

Mr. Robert McGehee, among the county’s oldest planters, died this morning at his Alexandria home aged 77. A native of North Carolina, he came here at age 1 with his parents and lived in the county for 61 years. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at 11 a.m. at his residence with burial in Bush Burial Ground.
