Camp Shridan Montgomery December 18 Special After a suspension from duty the Ohio division began intensive training to receive instruction for killing Germans. Governor Cox toured the camp and addressed Montgomery citizens before heading to Tuskegee then to a negro normal school. Officers and soldiers expect his future political aims, though he offered no direct remark on the presidency.
Major General Charles G. Treat announced that two thousand or more selective service men will reach Camp Sheridan in Chillicothe Ohio in the coming days. Exact numbers and dates are withheld by new regulations. The troops will be assigned to the ordnance department and quartered in the Ninth Battalion Negro camp temporarily. The arrival will mark three generations of the Treat family at the Montgomery training camp as Joseph Treat II joins his father and grandfather on site.
Jackson Mississippi December reports that many state legislators have resigned to enter national service, prompting Governor Bilbo to call special elections in all districts with vacancies to fill the vacancies caused by these resignations.
The New York cotton market opened firm with January at 26.60 up 30, March 29.95 up 14, May 29.57 up 14, and July 29.12 up 12. Prices were firm on Liverpool tables at the first call, rising 10 to 29 points before hedging selling eased the gains.

Direct word comes from Karl Wilson son of Judge John H Wilson serving in France. Censored letter only confirms he reached the front trenches and returned to base safe and sound. Wilson known in the section played for Anniston team and served in Alabama National Guard before volunteering for service.
Hundreds of boxes have been received and distributed to soldiers at the camp this week via the Knights of Columbus building. Large numbers of men visit and make merry there daily during the holiday period.
Private J. J. Friedman of the fourth company motor supply train departed this morning for a six day visit to relatives and old friends in Newark New Jersey.
United Press dispatch from France reports one American surgeon feared missing after German attacks around Cambrai. A second American medical officer returned to Allied lines, recalling the Cambrai fighting and risky retreat as British forces counterattacked.
