A cattle thief exchange with officers on Russellville streets left one man dead and two injured yesterday. Officers pursued the suspect through the town, engaging in a fierce confrontation before the fatal and non fatal injuries occurred. Authorities reported the incident is under investigation and no further details were released.
In Russellville a confrontation between City Marshal Ben Barrett, Deputy Sheriff Hargett, and brothers Tom and Henry Williams left one man dead and two gravely wounded. Henry Williams, once indicted for cattle theft, was killed. Frank McClurg and Tom Williams were injured as the altercation escalated at McClurg’s store. Barrett fired striking Williams in the eye, killing him instantly.
Special Telegram to The Evening Star reports G W Morgan president of the Security Redemption Co bound over by Justice Benners to the grand jury in 3000 dollars bail. The case centers on alleged securities matters awaiting grand jury action.
Aleck Weoip, 13, an employee at Anniston Manufacturing cotton mill, was caught in a machine this morning and his right foot torn off above the ankle. Drs Hager and Smith provided relief before he was taken home. Waldrip became trapped in a trimmer and suffered serious injuries but doctors expect not total harm.
