County registrars finish work this afternoon at four o clock closing life voter registration in Calhoun county. About nine months and four thousand seven hundred people became voters for life. Fewer than fifty registered this session and after four o clock today future registrants must meet property or literacy tests.
In Anniston the all star operetta Ali es In Wonderland will be staged at the Noble Street theater for a Christmas meal benefit. About 150 children join the principals in scenes, with two weeks of rehearsals completed. the Elks lodge plans the dinner following the show for the needy in town.

Gadsden December 19 The Times News reports Mountainboro mayor W O Hall was arrested by U S Deputy Marshal Campbell on selling whiskey without a license. Hall held court in Mountainboro when arrested and pleaded guilty before Commissioner Pickard and was bound over for $200.
A rumor that Scott Bishop the negro involved in Wade Hicks murder near Montgomery is lynched spreads from Marbury to Montgomery. Hicks was killed with an axe and robbed. sheriff’s posse found an axe with blood and money on Bishop. Governor plans to prevent lynching under any circumstances. A. J. J M Hansen of Pittsburg and Southern Car and Foundry president is in Birmingham to outline plans for major improvements at plants in Gadsden Anniston Memphis and Leeper Tennessee. Details will be announced soon with potential Wylam steel car plant under consideration.
Reports from Cariacas and Washington indicate the Allies will blockade Venezuela ports including La Guaira Puerto Cabello Maracaibo Cartago and Barcelona starting Saturday at 2 pm local time. The move is described as a de facto war blockade with formal declaration not required.
Deputy Collector Battle and Deputies Bell and Massey raided in Cleburne County capturing five complete stills and destroying 3000 gallons of beer and whiskey while seizing four men. Tarver Pessxer Beason and Allen were arrested near Beason's mill and Hedwardsville. Louis Benson was discharged. Bonds set at 200. This raid followed another five days earlier with six more stills seized.
The Kalaton stove foundry, first noted in the Evening Law, has begun work and aims for early completion. The new plant will produce bronze and other work and promise jobs and local prosperity, boosting the region’s economy.
An important change will take place at the Anniston office of Western Union Telegraph Co. on January 1. Mr. A. Fonville, three years manager in Anniston, is promoted to manager at Meridian Mississippi. Major H. H. McConnell will succeed him in Anniston. The transition reflects Fonville’s proven leadership and increases in office business.
