A deadly blizzard swept eastern and central Pennsylvania, causing four deaths and massive damage across coal regions. Rivers rose over banks, washouts crippled rail lines including the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Reading, and bridge collapses halted traffic. AFL delegates in Scranton are stranded with uncertain departure times.
Warm weather and rain gave way to high winds and widespread damage across New York. Snow in the north thawed rapidly Saturday, causing damage as the storm system moved through the state.
District Attorney Vaughan met with the president and is expected to receive a decision on his reappointment. Supporters say his fate hinges on the White House stance under Roosevelt. Once Vaughan is settled, the president will consider the Birmingham post office and other federal appointments.
Montgomery December 16 after a two week recess the Alabama Supreme Court reopened at 10 o clock with the Third Division docket called. The division includes Montgomery Autauga Butler Coneeh Mecambia and Lowndes counties.
MontcGom Mary Ala Dec 16 Phares Coleman reporter of the Supreme Court of Alabama has received a telegram from Beaumont Texas notifying that the oil company of which is president has struck a gusher. The company was organized in Montgomery and the stock is all held neat.
In Milwaukee on December 8 Illiane Jennings Bryan told Northwestern Mutual Life officials that he had twice suffered the "Presidential fever" and has fully recovered. An Lincoln agent had urged him to take a policy with the company after lengthy negotiations that continued for some time.
After six months the former presidential aspirant consented to a 10000 life policy. An application was issued asking about fever history. He answered yes he had two severe attacks of fever with chills but says he has fully recovered from heth.
The town endures a sharp cold snap as pipes freeze in many residences. Landlords grim and tenants busy with burning coals thawing lines. MeiMa December 16 Since a strike at the Bonthern shops in this city there has been friction between departing workers and railroad officials. Four or more men quit, one due to an $18 dispute with the company, others in sympathy. Remaining staff are unhappy and heavy shop work will be sent to Atlanta and Knoxville, costing Selma thousands as six engines are badly damaged and require about $25,000 in repairs. Two engines go to Knoxville and two to Atlanta, with the rest to follow. Future work at Selma shops will be light repair only.
