Registrants must stay informed and failure to do so may end right to exemption or discharge.
Montgomery December 53 Special The Birmingham Mule Association petition to establish transport rates between Birmingham Cordova and Maxine for Warrior River use has been postponed by agreement and will be heard later by the public service commission. The commission also announced withdrawal of the Seaboard Line passenger and freight facilities petition for England. An agreement between petitioners and railroad was reached.
The first rural education and rural life conference under the Interior Department bureau opened in Chico California and will run through Wednesday. Leading Pacific Coast educators including college and normal school presidents and education center cadets attend the event.
Montgomery December 3 Special reports state insurance commissioner C Brooks Smith urged mayors to adopt ordinances prohibiting fireworks during the Christmas holidays. He warned thousands of dollars of property are destroyed and people maimed yearly. He called on merchants and warehousemen to be vigilant to prevent fires and loss of grain and cotton.
New York December 4 Jews of America begin a two four week campaign to raise 5 000 000 dollars toward a 16 000 000 fund for relief of Jews in Russia Poland Turkey and the Balkan states who are reported to be dying by thousands.
Montgomery December 2 Special General G J Wabbard said President Wileen exempted William Duvall Dobbins of Perry county from military duty. Dobbins claimed agricultural service as sole farm provider for a nine horse operation and Jersey cattle breeding. He is the first Alabama citizen to win industrial grounds exemption from the president.
Senator John H. Bankhead passes through Montgomery en route to the war congress convening Monday. He declines to forecast re election but says he will stay in Washington if his services are needed and trusts Alabama friends with his political future. He returns from Mobile where admirers presented a silver loving cup. He says the Muscle Shoals nitrate plant will boost the Tennessee Valley region.
