Nebraskan leader Bryan endorses government ownership of railroads and federal control of trunk lines with state control of local lines. He calls for immediate uniform rates, harsher penalties for illegal capital, and a merciless war on trusts while urging income tax and universal eight hour day. He argues the 1900 platform clause on interstate licenses should become law and favors arbitration for international disputes.
Washington August 31 The understanding is that John Sharp Williams and Bryan are no longer political allies. In London at the Inter-Parliamentary Union they agreed on most issues except government ownership of railroads. Williams warned Bryan not to push that subject, and Bryan reportedly offended him. Williams hurried to Yazoo City Miss after arriving on the Majestic, avoiding railroad ownership questions in interviews.

In Atlanta today representatives from negro banks across the country met at the National Negro Business League conference to debate banking problems. The sessions continued through the day as the event neared its close this evening.
August 31. Justice receives Valdez telegram noting six Japanese convicted on St Paul Island for attempting to kill seals. Five others pleaded guilty. remaining cases to grand jury. Earlier, five of the party were killed and twelve captured during their drive off the island.
Sir Frederick Borden the Canadian Minister of Militia and Defence and Lady Borden are to sail today. In England he will confer with ordnance company representatives who seek to establish a factory in Canada in Quebec.
Seven year old Selene Rountree, daughter of Birmingham delegate J A Rountree, charmed the International League of Press clubs as Birmingham’s invitation to next year’s meeting. Her appeal drew deafening applause and commendations from more than twenty speakers, with Denver papers crediting her performance.
Fireman Bob Carter of Southern freight No. 16, living at Twelfth and Mulberry in Anniston, was struck in the neck by a mail hook at Merrill-ton yesterday around 5 PM. His eyes crossed and he was knocked senseless for about an hour. doctors expected recovery in a few days.
Axtell Kansas August 31 The Kansas Conference Luther League opened its fourth annual convention with a large representative attendance. Frank Nelson of Lindsborg presided. The league covers Swedish Lutheran youth work in Texas Colorado and Kansas.
Mrs. Fannie Adkins of Jacksonville proposes giving the Salvation Army a large farm with residence eleven miles north of the city for an orphanage and related aids. The deal hinges on a visit by Army officers this afternoon with a possible October 1 take over. the property would serve as an orphanage, summer home, infirmary, and refuge.
Four offenders appeared before Judge Emmett F. Crook in county court. Angibbo Appus, a Greek, faced trespassing on a railroad and concealed weapons charges. the trespass was dismissed while the weapons count resulted in a 94 fine and jail time for nonpayment. Also fined 19 each for heating on a railway train. Hiram McGhee paid 22 for drawing a pistol and was released.
