Miss Julia Houston Dies After Four Week Illness

Miss Julia Houston daughter of J D Houston died last night at 9 at the home of George Wilson 212 East Seventeen Street near Quintard after a four week illness. The funeral was this afternoon at 3:30 from the residence conducted by Rev Percy T Carnes with interment at Edgemont Cemetery. The family had been staying in Aniston while ill and planned to return to their former home in South Alabama.

Eleven White Men Are Imprisoned In Creosote Works Battle

In Houston Texas on August 15 eleven white men were jailed after a clash with African American workers at the Southern Pacific creosote plant seven miles from the city. Nelson Randall, a colored man, was killed. Bill Anderson, colored, wounded. William Hamilton, white, seriously wounded. an unknown negro was shot in the leg. The whites, employed to erect oil tanks, slept in a boarding car nearby after being disturbed by singing and then tried to seize Randall’s Winchester triggering the confrontation.

Troops Quell Disturbance in Shenandoah Pa

A mob of about fifty to sixty chased an alleged unfair worker near the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron washery. The night watchman Anthony Flinn was thrown into a creek during the chase. Infantry was called from the Reading station to hold the crowd back and prevent serious trouble.
