Beaumont Texas readers report wild oil discovery fever with skyrocketing land and stock speculation. Gold rush like scenes drive cash-only deals, sky-high rents, and urgent quick-turn trades as senators governors and magnates mingle with newsboys shouting extras.
Interest rises as the world famous Thomas Orchestra of over eighty trained musicians plans a Monday night engagement at Noble Street theatre in Anniston. The concert is anticipated as the greatest musical treat the city has yet seen.
At Tuskaloosa on Memorial Day the Warrior Guards and Alabama cadets fired salutes over Confederate graves when H. Foster Hill, a highly regarded veteran, collapsed and died in the cemetery shortly after receiving the Cross of Honor from Mrs. Bryce of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Medical aid arrived too late.
April 27. A railroad shed and platform at Avenue A and Thirty fifth Street burned yesterday morning. More than a thousand bales of cotton were destroyed or damaged. Total damage estimated at 45000 dollars.
Two burglars entered the Alaska saloon in Burr, Montana, loaded a 300-pound safe onto an express wagon, moved it to the city limits, broke it open and secured 10,000 in gold before escaping toward town without leaving clues.
Mr. C. H. Hilton travels from Nevada Missouri with the remains of his brother W Hilton to be met at the union depot by a Knights of Pythias delegation from Anniston lodge No. 91. Interment with Pythian honors is set for Oxford cemetery tomorrow at 3 pm and the lodge members meet at 2 pm. A call to Calhoun Rathbone and Oxanna lodges invites attendance. The notice closes with a cough remedy advertisement.
