Daniel A. Farrell announced the award to W. B. Alger for two grand entrance arches across Eleventh and Wilmer streets and merchants display booths on Wilmer sidewalks. Booths cost only actual construction, arches free. work to begin Saturday with completion before Monday May 6.
Col. Jefferson M. Falkner says Alabama cotton crop damaged 15 to 20 percent due to a cold snap. He notes widespread farmer concern as cold winds continue. corn also nipped but not permanently hurt, with limited replanting likely unless weather worsens.
Gen. James H. Savage of this city left this afternoon for Birmingham to attend memorial exercises by the United Confederate Veterans and the Sons and Daughters of Jefferson and adjoining counties. Also notes good coal and wood for sale at low prices by RKO Watrou, phone 72.
Washington April 25 The War Secretary released the names of 88 officers selected as first and second lieutenants under the army reorganization bill. Alabama is allotted ten positions with appointees including Frank W. Glover James I Shelly Frank F E Lynch Thomas Hardeman Richard B Going William P Serens William Walls Marion B Madson James Hixon and others. They have served in state or national volunteer units or the regular army and will be ordered for examination. passing will lead to appointment.
The big Sam Jones revival at the Auditorium ended this morning with about four thousand listeners at his last sermon on God's love. Crowds filled the meetings yesterday and last night, a free will offering of 800 to 900 was raised for Jones and colleagues Mrs. Graham and Mr. Gilreath, and Jones announced that he and Rev. Geo. B. Stuart may return to Annis ton next year if welcomed. Scores joined churches, and Jones departs at 3 55 pm for Louisville to visit Mrs. Jones before likely lecturing there, then moves to Waycross Ga with Rev Len G. Broughton for another revival.
Arrangements for the North east Alabama Fair at Oxford Lake October 16 to 18 are set. Officers include James Crook president Jacksonvill e Howard W. Sexton secretary Anniston and Geo W. Eichelberger treasurer Oxford with department superintendents named for horses cattle poultry crops home industry and more. Entries open to Calhoun Cherokee Clay Isbellurne Etowah County residents with substantial cash premiums offered across departments.

The Post reports Texas cotton acreage is three weeks late with extensive replanting ahead. Increased acreage is expected, with grain land to be plowed into cotton in the northern regions. Boll weevil is present in the south and southeast, with fear it will attack cotton in North Texas where it is young.
