Carter Harrison secures a second term as Chicago mayor after a decisive election victory. The historic figure faces ongoing debates over reform and city growth with strong support from local political factions and business leaders.
Chicago reports Carter Harrison won re election and will start a third term as mayor. He leads judge Elbridge Haney by about 28 073 votes from 8 precincts reporting with Harrison 155275 and Haney 127202.
In Birmingham this afternoon the Democratic State Executive Committee meets to hear contests for the Constitutional Convention nominations. Candidates Tennant Lomax and John B. Knox are named for president of the body, with General William C. Oates often mentioned. The session will discuss Elmore County contests and organize the campaign for the convention.
General Aguinaldo in Manila swears allegiance to the United States renouncing all revolutionary governments in the Philippine Islands. He pledges loyalty to the US and to refrain from aiding enemies, a move that effectively ends the insurrection in the Philippines.
St Louis on April 3 reports Rolla Wells elected World's Fair Mayor with about a 10 000 plurality. The entire Democratic ticket also won. An unrelated classified line touts spring suits from 20 dollars up by J N Boyer & Co.

Beat 14 residents had installed gates to stop livestock from entering Talladega, while others found them inconvenient and Talladega officials objected after a probate judge's letter requesting abrogation of the gates.
