Special to the Star GADSDEN April 2 An accident at the Alabama Consolidated Coal and Iron Company furnace halted operations on the new stack and delayed its April 17 planned blow in. Five sections of the stack house collapsed 80 feet of structure fell in steam pipes broke and ship hoist foundations weakened requiring extensive repairs. The collapse followed a cave in of an old rock retaining wall from the original furnace site.
