Galusha A Grow former congressman from the Wilmot district Pennsylvania died at his Glenwood home after a long decline attributed to old age. He served as youngest member and later speaker of the house and re entered as a representative at large from Pennsylvania. He helped craft the Homestead Act and came within one vote of the vice presidential nomination in 1894.

The Salvation Army in this city marks nearly five years of service with a planned week of prayer and self denial from April 14 to 21. Members will abstain from luxuries to fund the army's outreach and aid the needy, extending the army's philanthropy locally. A Georgia girl, Parker of Valdosta, died by her own hand, with no apparent reason given.

Mr J B Conner died at his home just outside the city limits at 9 o clock Saturday night following a period of illness. He was buried at noon today at Four Mile church with Rev J T Black officiating. He leaves a wife and children and was described as a good citizen and reliable Christian gentleman.

The Anniston plant of the Car and Foundry Fowsed Steel Car Company undergoes a management change with Mr. C W Wrenshall remaining as manager and no new manager named. Office staff reduced by about six as work for the remaining employees doubles, while Mr Wrenshall predicts continued plant prosperity. Former manager Mr Hf A McCord has shipped his furniture North and is on leave.

Mrs. H. A. McDonald mother of Mrs. JT. D. Barr of this city died in Alexander City last night and will be buried in Columbus Georgia tomorrow. Mrs Barr will attend the funeral but Dr Barr cannot go due to illness. Mrs McDonald and her son Capt. T 8B. McDonald A B A are well known here. The news will be sorrowfully received.
The long running conspiracy case involving John F. Gaynor and Benjamin D. Greene, tied to Savannah bor bor development frauds with ex Captain Carter, was argued before the US circuit court of appeals in New Orleans. Government attorney Marion Erwin and W Meldrim appeared for the defense. Sentenced to four years and fined $575,000 a year ago, they remain jailed in Macon, Georgia.
New coal freight rates of up to ten percent announced by trunk line railroads went into effect today in Pittsburgh. The modest price increase is expected to raise costs for coal buyers and shippers.
