First Fiction Known The Tale of Two Brothers
The oldest extant work of fiction is believed to be the Tale of Two Brothers, dated around 3200 years ago. Authored by Ennana, a Hebrew scribe and palace librarian, the story likely entertained crown prince Seti II and may include the autograph signature of an Egyptian king. The manuscript was written on nineteen papyrus sheets in a bold hieratic hand and later acquired in Italy by Mme. d'Orbiney, who sold it in 1857 to the British Museum, where it is known as the D'Orbiney papyrus.
