Famous drivers to enter in auto races at Shelby county fair

The Shelby County Fair opens August 18 with a grand program including mobile car races on August 21 offering 2000 dollars in purses. Noted drivers Gaston Chevrolet and Jerry Wonderlich have entered, with more to come, races sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association.

John Cleo Metheny born April 3 1918 in Anita passed away July 30 1918 at his grandfather S V Metheny’s home with services held July 31 1918. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery. The obituary notes a grieving family and a child’s short life.

Death of a former Anita resident in Pasadena

Mrs. Rev. J. W. Martin died July 15 at her Pasadena home after a brief illness. Born August 4, 1839 in Indiana, she aged 78 years 11 months 11 days. She lived in Cass County since 1854, married John Morrison in 1860 and had eight children. Survived by Frank H. Morrison Anita Iowa Mary Claire Emery Anna George in California and others, later married Rev. J. W. Martin. Her brother Lew C. Robison remains in the area.
