The government drives a nationwide shift to cash transactions in all commerce. Wholesale, jobbing, and home merchants face mandatory spot cash policy, ending 30 60 or 90 day credits. With government order pushing the change, cities and towns are lining up to enforce it within thirty days.
Mrs. Budd wife of H W Budd and mother of W F Budd editor of the Anita Tribune was found dead in her bed this morning from heart trouble nearing seventy. She rode with her son Walter yesterday and listened to the band. Funeral time not fixed due to H L Bell being away in Kansas. obituary to appear next week.
The Shelby County Fair opens August 18 with a grand program including mobile car races on August 21 offering 2000 dollars in purses. Noted drivers Gaston Chevrolet and Jerry Wonderlich have entered, with more to come, races sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association.
County picnic preparations are finished with a round table discussion on topics like alfalfa growth feeding cattle and hogs and the farm labor question. Practical county farmers will feed the discussions. The site is the county poor farm in section 25 Washington township with signs guiding access via White Pole road from Lewis or Atlantic.
The editorial says the Democratic state convention roasted Governor Harding and praised Senator Kenyon while ignoring Keys of Des Moines. The obituary notes a grieving family and a child’s short life.
Anna Florence Eckert born January 2 1871 Prairie City Iowa died July 29 1918 at her home Council Bluffs Iowa at age 47 years 6 months 27 days after brief heart illness. She married Fred Saunders August 6 1888 in Cass County Iowa and had four children Ray Saunders Faye Carlson Nellie Reynolds and Leland Saunders. Funeral Aug 1 at Jackson Undertaking Parlors Omaha conducted by Rev F W Leavitt. interment West Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Rev. J. W. Martin died July 15 at her Pasadena home after a brief illness. Born August 4, 1839 in Indiana, she aged 78 years 11 months 11 days. She lived in Cass County since 1854, married John Morrison in 1860 and had eight children. Survived by Frank H. Morrison Anita Iowa Mary Claire Emery Anna George in California and others, later married Rev. J. W. Martin. Her brother Lew C. Robison remains in the area.
