First State Bank will close Saturday and reopen Monday at 9 a.m. in a new southwest square location. The $100,000 plus structure spans 5400 square feet with a vault area, 331 safe deposit drawers, eight teller windows, and dedicated spaces for offices, directors, and staff amenities. Three five ton refrigeration units will cool and heat the building.
Summer recreational programs start Monday for school children. Dub Warden, golf coach, opens at 8 am at the local golf course. bring clubs. Max Goldsmith urges boys to meet at the old high school gym at 9 30 am for gym games football baseball and more. Girls join with Jo Ann Brown and Kathleen Heilvenston at the high school gym. Swimming at the county pool is included.
Russell Austin was installed as president of the Andrews Lions Club at the annual spring barbecue at the county park Monday night. New officers include Tom Hood as first vice president Vernon Payne as second vice president and Jim Burcham as third vice president.
Little Miss Marilyn Myers six year old daughter of Mr and Mrs George Myers returned to Andrews home Thursday after delicate heart surgery at Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston May 13 The girl is recuperating nicely Mrs Myers accompanied her daughter home by plane Mr Myers had returned to Andrews last week Marilyns grandmother Mrs J G Livingston of Amarillo has been in Andrews two weeks caring for her two younger brothers Milton and Paul during their absence.
Andrews high school honored 74 seniors at commencement with diplomas. Guest speaker Frank Elkins urged faith in God country home school and self, while salutation speaker Don Spencer urged steadfast love to ward off prejudice.
Cabot Carbon discovers a shallow Queen sand oil pay in North Andrews County. The operation flowed 200 barrels of new oil in nine hours through open hole at 4490 to 4522 feet after fracturing with 7500 gallons of sand oil. the well is shut in for storage and plans to complete soon. Nearby offsets include HumbLe No. 63 Means and Stanolind tests in Ellenburger and Wolfcamp intervals with varied production results.
A noon luncheon program by the Andrews Lions Club featured a group of talented youngsters. Lois Ulmer, Nancy Luck, Caroline Ramsey, Sidney Sue Roberts, and Pamelia McKinzie performed in several costume numbers with solos by Suzanne Heinzberger and Ann Wainmer. All children studied with Mrs. R Daniels and were accompanied by Miss Sandra Alcorn.
Fifty four seniors seven sponsors and three buses departed early Wednesday for a Ban dera trip to San Antonio for a sightseeing and shopping tour. They return Monday May 30 with counselors Supt and Mrs Roach and their son Sammy Mr and Mrs Bill Gordon Mr and Mrs Partridge and Miss Marguerite McGill accompanying.
Special ticket sales heat up for the Character Presentation Banquet of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. The semi formal event at the Community Building Friday features Dixie Maltsberger of Singleton's Funeral Home as president, with Rocky Ford of Midland as principal speaker and Ed Bastello of Odessa Jaycees acting as toastmaster.
Little League baseball kicks off for the summer at the park north of Hamilton stadium with four teams Lindsey Roustabouts Corner Drug Pig gy Wiggly and Bankers. Games begin 6 30 pm and 8 pm with 36 scheduled matches on Monday and Thursday nights.
Friends honored retiring fifth grade teacher Mrs. Harry Douthitt at a farewell party in the Hutchenson home rock garden last Saturday. She will teach in Odessa next fall and received a life membership in the Texas State Teachers Association along with a gold membership pen and certificate.
Funeral services for Mrs. H. K. Howell 72 longtime Andrews County resident were held at 3 00 p m Tuesday at the First Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Andrews County Cemetery. Survivors include her husband two daughters four sons three sisters two brothers and numerous relatives.
