The News staff prepares to relocate from cramped quarters to a new 50 by 120 foot building. The Young’un and Charlie the cockroach are fixtures in tales about the move as editors anticipate a ten year shift in downtown Andrews. The piece notes the school bond bid change from 5.00 per thousand to 2.72 in the same era.
Funeral services for Bruce Eldon Hubbard four and one half month old son of Mr and Mrs Bruce Gerald Hubbard were held at 1030 AM Wednesday in Singleton's Funeral Home Chapel with Carl Grissom pastor First Baptist Church officiating. The Hubbards recently moved here from Odessa. burial followed in the local cemetery under Bingletons direction.
The 1954-55 term ends with seven six seniors receiving diplomas at commencement. Frank Elkins of Andrews Insurance Agency will deliver the address. Valedictorian Mickey Sparks and salutatorian Don Spencer lead a list of graduates, with Supt. T. A. Roach presenting diplomas.
A bulging docket and a new judge will greet forty two jurors summoned for the second section of the April term district court. Judge Sterling Williams will sit in Snyder, with non jury and divorce cases heard Monday, jury trials Tuesday, and two high profile cases involving Mildred Oswalt and W L Copeland Jr. on the docket.
A brother and sister from Lovington New Mexico captured the top all around cowboy and cowgirl titles at the sixth annual high school rodeo. Olin Young won the all around cowboy title and D Ann Young took the barrel racing crown while Byrone Taylor claimed barrel racing for the fourth straight year. The three day event drew over 2000 paid admissions.
Fire Chief James Reed warned the public to stop tailing fire apparatus after a collision between a volunteer fireman and an observer. Officials would enforce the ordinance immediately if the practice continued, as a fireman rushing to a call collided with another driver also attempting to reach the scene.

Dog owners in the City of Andrews were urged to vaccinate their animals with 1955 rabies shots. City secretary L. B. Parrish noted many vaccines last year expired in January of this year.
Mr and Mrs G G Gibbs of the Sinclair Lease at Shafter Lake report the accidental death of their son Don William Gibbs 32 of Lafayette Louisiana at 5 am Thursday near Lafayette with details still unavailable. Funeral arrangements are pending with burial planned in Lafayette. He is survived by his wife and daughter Carolyn parents a sister Mrs Thelma Womack of Gallup New Mexico and five brothers Buddy Gibbs Jerry Gibbs D M Gibbs Charles Lawler and J W Lawler. Scout leaders from Winkler Andrews and Ward counties met in the elementary cafeteria Monday to discuss boosting local scouting. Each county reported progress, but more parents of cub and boy scouts are needed to expand the program.
Tickets are on sale for the Charter Presentation Banquet of the Junior Chamber of Commerce to be held May 27 in the community building. Dixie Maltsberger, president, says plans are complete with Rocky Ford of Midland as principal speaker and Ed Bastello of Odessa as toastmaster. The event is semi formal.
The First State Bank will be closed all day Saturdays and observe six holidays instead of twelve under House Bill 19. Executive vice president J O Boothe announced the change, effective May 28, with hours nine to two on Saturdays.
The Texas Company reports a preliminary production gauge from No 1 BB in Block 6 Devonian field Northeast Andrews County. Acidized perforations produced 64 barrels of lead oil and 197 barrels of new oil plus mud and water. 12,582 to 12,602 feet perforations and 500 gallons of acid.
