Funeral services were held for Edward Franklin Latham at Singleton Funeral Home on Thursday at 2 o clock officiated by Rev. Eugene Brand. Born December 16 1873 in Converse LA he moved to Andrews last year and died after illness at Tooms Hospital Seminole. Survived by wife six sons two daughters two sisters and a granddaughter. Burial in Andrews cemetery with Sinpieton s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Andrews Study Club staged a Spring fashion preview with local models at the school auditorium. Knox Irwin Jr. served as MC with a committee of local club members organizing outfits from Fashion Shoppe Singleton's The Toggery and Andrews Dry Goods. The show featured Easter outfits, formals, children’s wear, western styles, and home goods with proceeds around 50 dollars.

Blackie Moyer, 47, of Hobbs New Mexico and worker for Anderson and Prichard, received a head injury when a 2 inch tube piece fell and struck him in the North Cowden field Ec tor county. He was taken to Andrews County Hospital by Ed Kennedy. No skull fracture was found.

H. L. Atkins Jr. county agent advises Andrews fruit growers to spray trees to prevent worm infestation. Three applications are recommended: at bloom start, full bloom, and as petals fall. First two sprays use lead arsenate and hydrated lime. Bordeaux powder may be added in the third if available.

4-H Club Boys Take Prizes In Odessa Show

Five Andrews 4-H Club members competed in the Sand Hills Hereford Show in Odessa last week. Local exhibitors Mildred and Melvin Cotten Jack Brock Ross Bullard and F D Hughey earned prizes in the Andrews Crane and Ector county circuit with Bullard taking second in the milk-fed steer division and $7 50 in awards. Grand Champion honors went to Don Thornberry from Donley County near Andrews. Bullard also placed sixth in the general class winning $8 75 while steers from Andrews County drew solid prices at the sale with Cotten earning 43 cents per pound in a joint bid.

Phillips Well in Andrews Ablaze

Fire broke out late Tuesday at Phillips Petroleum No 44 University Andrews in Embar field Andrews County. By early Wednesday it remained burning with no injuries reported and only the rig involved likely to be affected. The well produces from Permian and Ellenburger. completed about three years ago.

Band Concert Opens New High School Building

Patrons are invited to a 7:30 p.m. band concert on Friday March 26 marking the formal opening of the new high school building. The 54 piece junior high and grade school band and 60 piece senior high band will perform with soloists Clara Lee Robbie Allen Erma Gen Brom Doris Johnson and Sue Maxwell and ensembles including a flute trio saxophone quartet and brass sextet. Lot Cleared and Surveyed for New Wallace Theatre

The Wallace Blanken ship announced in Andrews that the lot is cleared and surveyed and a contract will be let by May 1. Plans call for a 1000 seat theatre with concrete or tile walls and a highway facing entrance. The north side will include a long room divided into offices with tenants’ needs advised to contact Jimmie Burleson, Wallace manager.
