The consolidated district reports a 1939 40 budget of 72932 with oil and real estate tax bases and 37 scholastics. the County Board may resign as the New School District absorbs duties. Residents urge repurposing the old courthouse into a youth friendly recreation complex including a swimming pool and beautification programs led by local clubs and women’s groups.
Workmen of the Texas Electric Service Company were busy Wednesday stringing street lights up and down the main street of Andrews. Four lights of 100 watt each were installed. Four or five more lights will be installed in the near future. Richberg Watkins left Monday on a short vacation to visit friends and relatives in Paris, Texas.
A heavy storm on Monday night brought a million dollar rain across Andrews County, ranging from one to five inches by area. City totals hit about 2.5 inches in Andrews while nearby communities reported up to five inches, promising relief for parched land and better prospects for corn and feed crops.
Andrews County enjoys a mild upturn as drilling crews settle in and a new courthouse is planned. Rainy weather boosts optimism while housing tight pushes families to Seminole. Local operators expect continued activity and labor demand.

Court House Bonds approved by Andrews County voters for a new court house. Land block purchased and paid, deeds filed. Plans tentatively approved by the Commissioner's Court and bids may be sought soon for the new building.
After months away Ned and Mrs Powell and their son return to Andrews. Ned has been drilling a wildcat in the Ozona country for Humble using a rig powered by gas and has set surface casing on J. S. Means No. 64. New arrivals include Burt Ansel Dick Lee Lloyd Bird Blackie Ivanhoe Little Doc Adams Red Standiefer and Lloyd Belt.
Marriage licenses were issued to George McLaughlin and Mrs. Sallie Douthit and to Miss Katie Foreman and Don Whitson.

Rev. Caradine Hooton presiding elder conducts a district revival drawing big attendance and public interest. His Sunday sermon titled The Devil Goes to Church captivates listeners as he combines simple speech with sincere, thoughtful evangelism.
Low bids were announced Saturday to the Andrews Independent School Board for several campus upgrades. Lowrie and Son were the low bidders for a school bus garage, concrete curb on the south side, and gravel and lumber work. Herman Turnbow bid for the football field fence, enclosing the five acre tract northwest of the igseh building, while Conner Sutphen won the cable fence bid for part of the campus.
The Seminole Merchants announce a First Saturday's Fun Day starting next Saturday per Sam Malone of the Seminole Sentinel. It will be a monthly affair with invites to locals and visitors. Merchants offer real bargains in merchandise and cash prizes to attract participation.
Severs families and employees of the Humble Oil and Refining Company left this week for their summer holiday. Those departing Thursday included Mr and Mrs J B McNeil Mr and Mrs Mash Puttman Mr and Mrs J R Williamson Mr and Mrs H L Rogers and Mr and Mrs Phillip Weaners.
Mrs Jimmerman has taken over the Andrews Hotel and will operate a dining room in connection with the hotel. She states that family style meals will be served.
The Baptist Church will start its annual summer revival on the third Sunday in July and run for two weeks. Rev Roy Clayton will preach and M. J. Q. Woodard of Fort Worth will lead the music. Woodard, a Baptist Seminary graduate, directs music at Gambrell Street Baptist Church and is lifelong friend of Clayton. Brownwood reports Mack Farmer in Goldsmith area and Bud Young visiting Andrews with rain. Imogene Mangum, Andrews public school music teacher, accompanies revival at the Methodist Church.
Mrs L D Hull spent time with her sister Mrs Behols this week, sharing a family visit and catching up on news.
Nine members of the W M U attended the Quarciy District Conference in Lamesa with plans for the quarter and several addresses. The Sinclair Prairie No 6 Emma Cowden well extended the pool two locations southeast and yielded 1608 barrels daily, surpassing the Osage Drilling No 1 University well. The No 6 Cowden acidized at 4150 feet and flowed 473 barrels daily at 4250 feet with a gas oil ratio of 561. A possible extension to the Fuhrman pool is indicated at Magnolia Petroleums No 1 Beta Jones.
The notice honors Mrs J T Crow known as Cora who celebrated her 63rd birthday on June 28. Her husband J T Crow revealed the milestone during a shopping trip, recalling their 40 year marriage in Coryell county. The News wishes her many more happy birthdays with her husband by her side.
The Faithful Workers Sunday School Class of the Baptist Church met with Mrs John Keith on Wednesday 28th for a business and social meeting. Nineteen members were present. Mrs O G Weatherby read the minutes and Mrs Dave Sisson was elected vice president.
Texas Railroad Commission issued rules for the Fuhrman field in Andrews County. One well on 20 acres is allowed with 330 feet from lease lines and 796 feet from the nearest well. Surface casing to 250 feet or 10 feet below red ped top, cemented to surface. minimum 250 sacks cement on oil string. Gas oil ratio cap 5000 to 1. Bottom tubing or perforations no higher than 50 feet above hole bottom. Acreage and potential proration set at 50 percent per factor.
John G. Little requests the return of his borrowed pipe and rutting tools. Also notes Mr and Mrs H M Nixon and family left this week for a vacation with relatives near San Antonio.
The West Texas District WM S plans a three day Baptist encampment July 10 11 and 12 at Hammond Ranch on the Colorado River north of Colorado City Texas. About 300 boys ages 9 to 16 from area churches will join sessions with daily swims guarded by life guards and a nurse under local pastors and a recreational director.
