CR Lackey resigns after one year as City Secretary effective July 6. City Council approves resignation and grants a letter of recommendation. A ten year old boy, Kenny Thompson, was bitten on the leg while riding a motor scooter in the 800 block of Northwest Fifth. The dog chased and attacked him, he received a tetanus shot at the hospital, and the dog was penned by authorities for examination.
A Connecticut man, Anthony J. Vasquezna, was arrested at a bus station after locals and Sheriff Ray Phillips followed a trail from a gas stop near Odessa to Andrews. A 1951 Cadillac linked to Las Vegas dealers led to his capture as he attempted to board a westbound bus.
Ronny Huckabee of Hardin-Simmons University earned second place in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association final standings after the season end rodeo at Broadmoor Arena in Colorado Springs. He placed first in ribbon roping and third in calf roping in the first go and final rounds, securing his 2nd place overall.
In 109th District Court two civil cases and one criminal action settled. A Jones County jury found in favor of the defendant in Perry Williams vs HL Martin Inc, ruling the collision an unavoidable accident and assigning no damages. Rob Needham was sentenced to two years for oil field equipment theft. Jackson received a two year suspended sentence for possession of stolen goods. Upcoming civil suits name Texas Employers Insurance Association. plaintiffs Oliver Collins and John Williams seek workers comp related damages. About 25 tax representatives from oil firms endorsed the county’s $1,252,944.67 budget in a morning session led by County Judge Virgil Lasater. The plan projects a $1.54 tax rate on a $70 million evaluation with funds allocated to Road and Bridge, general, and bond payments, plus salaries and improvements.
The Rotary Ladies Night banquet at the new junior high cafeteria featured Rev. Don Davidson, pastor of Means Memorial Methodist, delivering the main address on Rotary Service above Self. He warned against self serving aid and urged giving without return, citing a Bible verse. Sandra Alcorn provided dinner music while L B Williams and Leonard Craft led program planning and Charlie Ward presided.
This week’s oil report notes Parker Oiler No. 1-H Parker in Midland No 1-H Parker is flowing after perforating casing opposite the Clear Fork from 6,977 to 6,987 feet and 6,996 to 7,001 feet. The well acidized with 3,000 gallons mud acid and 18,000 gallons regular acid flowed 190 barrels in 10 hours, producing oil and reducing acid water by about 10 percent. Location details place the well near section 8, block A 41, ps survey, 13 miles west of Andrews.
Fourth victim in a grinding two car crash near Odessa dies in Medical Center Hospital. Dora Lenora Colley 45 of Dollarhide dies Friday night from injuries suffered June 16. Funeral set for 4 pm Monday at First Baptist Odessa with Dr John Rasco officiating. Colleys resided in Dollarhide nine years. Harold Colley killed in crash. funeral arrangements by Rix Funeral Home.
