A highway chase ended when Highway Patrolman Billi Hyman shot the fleeing Seminole man John ny Alvis Agnew 28 in a sandy pasture 1 12 miles north of Andrews. Agnew later faced charges of resisting arrest carrying a concealed weapon and drunk in a car.

Post Fence Crash Adds to Week's Car Damage Totals

Three traffic accidents this week caused 725 dollars in damage. In Andrews on Monday Katrina Ahuddell and Kenneth Deviney swerved to avoid a wrong lane turn, damaging Deviney's car 150 dollars, a meter post 25 dollars and a fence 200 dollars. Ahuddell cited for improper turn and Deviney for no license.

Summer Program In Full Swing At Youth Center

The Youth Center reports total participation of 2 215 in its summer recreation program this week. The volleyball league shows strong adult interest with four teams led by Evening Lions and then Independents. Next week offers textile painting for all ages, and boys sports include softball at the junior high grounds with archery planned. A July tennis tournament features several divisions for youth and adult players. About 40 students joined a Balmorrea swimming trip, with another scenic excursion planned by Youth Center Director Gerald Woodward.

Library to Close for Weekend Facelift

The county library will shut from today to Saturday for painting and a building facelift announced by Librarian Mrs Russell Austin. The closure affects all services while work is completed this weekend.

Two Falls Cause Arm Breaks In Town

Randall James Williams aged son of Mr and Mrs Harold J Williams of 508 Northeast 3rd fell about six feet from a tree in his back yard while playing before breakfast. Opal Nix of 207 Northwest Second fell from a chicken house, catching himself with an arm and breaking a wrist. Both were treated at Permian General Hospital.

Kissing Bug Bites Hospitalize Two Area Women

Two area women were hospitalized after bites from a bug resembling a kissing bug. Mrs. Jeff Dunlap near Goldsmith and Mrs. W. E. Bennett 18 miles west on Kermit Highway reported bites, nausea, and headaches. Doctors described two insect types and formic acid in bites, with victims recovering after treatment.

Fly-In Breakfast Set Sunday by Mustang Flying Club

More than 100 planes from the area are expected at the annual Fly-In Breakfast Sunday morning at the local airport. Tickets cost 1.00 at Corner Drug or at the breakfast. Planes begin arriving at 6 a.m. with prizes for goofiest landing, ladies arriving by plane, and oldest flyer. A civil aeronautica official from Midland will judge the landing.

Zoning Engineer Hired By City Council

The Andrews city council authorized a Lubbock firm Hasie and Green as zoning engineers to develop a zoning plan. George Green outlined preliminary steps including a spot map of existing uses and a zoning board with authority to draft regulations for residential and business zones. The project was estimated at 3500 dollars and includes coordinating existing building permits with the new zoning ordinance.

Shower Brings 0.3 Inches Of Rain In City

A spot shower dropped about 0.3 inches of rain Tuesday afternoon with light hail. The shower began around 5:15 pm from a northwest cloud and lasted roughly 20 minutes, with surrounding areas in the county receiving little or no rainfall.

7200 Volt Mishap Claims 17 Year Old Worker

A 17 year old construction worker, Thomas Dean Killough of Odessa, was electrocuted near Andrews while working for R. B. Stovall Construction Co. He touched a 7200 volt line and died at Pedi Man General Hospital after 7:25 a.m. Saturday. His body was sent to Monroe, North Carolina, for burial.

Hit and Run Driver Faces Felony Charges

A Brownfield man, Ross Chidester, faces felony charges of failure to stop and render aid after a hit and run near Plains that injured 16 year old Warren and his mother. The collision left Jerry Warren with the loss of his left arm and occurred five miles north of Plains on a Thursday night. Police set roadblocks and stopped the suspect about a mile west of Brownfield. The Warren family was en route to Dora New Mexico when the crash occurred. The injured boy's arm was amputated at the elbow after treatment at Yoakum County Hospital in Denver City.
