An Odessa couple confronts their son and daughter in a tense meal scene about finances. Oil company representatives joined county commissioners at the annual board of equalization meeting in Andrews County. They discussed budgets and value increases as the county sets a tax ratio rise from 1.22 to 1.25 to offset costs. The county targets surplus for late payments as tax assessments come in.
An 18 year old Odessa girl Latricia Ann Fourd died at the scene from massive head injuries when a borrowed 1977 Ford Thunderbird veered off FM 181 near Frankel City and rolled across pasture. A 10 year old companion Tenna Herring was hospitalized with severe injuries after the one car crash. The incident occurred about 9:55 p m as the vehicle traveled north toward Hobbs New Mexico.
A frightened ten year old tells of visiting a foster sister and borrowing a 1977 Thunderbird for a reckless late drive to Hobbs. They sped along Burma Road at speeds near 90 to 100 mph before a deadly derailment as officers search the wreckage. The girl’s words emerged from the deputy’s car. See HELP, Page7.
R. V. Dillard of Andrews is celebrated as a foster father figure after raising three children and hosting more than 100 foster kids since 1967. He served as a volunteer firefighter, on multiple boards, and remains a central community caregiver recognized by local welfare officials.
Kirby West manager Douglas S. Waller announced conducted tours of the Kirby assembly and die cast plants are available weekly in July and August. Tours run each Thursday at 10 am from July 7 to August 25, with 15 slots per tour and advance reservations required by calling 523 5511. Minimum age is twelve. children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. children under 12 are not invited.
